Interested in getting involved with Madison's local theater scene? StageQ is always looking for help!

From actors auditioning to people volunteering for stage crew, ticketing or ushering, StageQ's performances could not happen without a team of creative, committed volunteers.

StageQ usually holds auditions three to four months before a show goes into production. If you’d like to be notified of upcoming auditions, please email us at auditions@stageq.com.

Plays & Manuscripts

Writers may submit plays in printed or electronic versions. Printed copies should be sent to:

Electronic versions may be sent to artistic director@stageq.com.

Every script must be accompanied by a one-page précis, including:

• One-paragraph description of the plot
• Casting requirements (number of actors, gender, ages, special requirements, if any)
• Set requirements
• Running time
• Special technical requirements, if any
• The intended audience
• Is there lesbian, gay or other queer content?
• Is there nudity? Adult language?

Plays are not returned unless you providea stamped envelope. Plays are read within six months after submission; however, season selections are made annually, so submitted plays may not be considered for one or two years.

Production Team

StageQ typically has the following production positions available for each show:

• Producer
• Stage Manager
• Light, Set and Sound Designers
• Costume Designer
• Set Construction
• Light & Sound Board Operator
• Prop Coordinator
• Marketing and Public Relations

While some positions are paid, most are volunteer.

Become a Bartell House Manager, Bartender or Usher - April 20

Are you a friendly, capable person who likes meeting and mingling with local theater artists? If you can commit to one hour's training and one night's work, you can play with us!

The Bartell Theatre Foundation supports six resident companies through rental subsidies, training and community connections. We are beginning a volunteer program by training and recruiting House Volunteers. When 50 people are trained as House Managers, the Bartell Theatre Foundation will begin coordinating all house volunteers so that the resident companies can focus on creating theatre!

Benefits:

• House Managers and bartenders receive a 30-day ticket to any resident company’s show at the Bartell.
• Bartenders keep their tips.
• Ushers see the show free.

All house volunteers are invited to special events and otherwise appreciated!
